Papa Kape Will Be Your New Favorite Hole-In-The-Wall Cafe

One will never guess nor imagine that a coffee shop will lie in the heart of Ampere Street in Brgy. Palanan, Makati like a gem. On your way to the pin that Google Maps directs you to, you’ll pass by residential areas and a few sari-sari stores. It’s the usual busy neighborhood in Makati until you arrive at Tap Tap Laundromat. It has a big black gate and has the same location as the cafe we’re talking about.

You’ll see a small glasshouse and you’ll know you’ve come to the right place. You’ve arrived at Papa Kape, a quaint cafe that just opened last January 2021. Like what the owner says, the cafe being a hole in the wall is its very charm.

They’ve got cactus and other plants with big leaves in some corners that will make you feel the tropical vibe. While I was already amused by the pleasing appearance of this al fresco cafe, their menu got me even more interested.

Papa Kape specializes in ginger-infused coffee and tea. I saw the pretty photo of their Iced Cocolatte on the bar so I immediately decided to get one.

I arrived around 8 in the morning to a couple who came with their bikes and passed by the cafe. After a short while, they left and the owner and I had a short, engaging chitchat.  That’s when I knew the cafe is just literally days-old and it’s a business of a family who worked in hospitality/restaurant industry. No wonder the drinks aren’t very typical and interesting. That also explains why they will always greet you with a warm welcome. The owner said they literally just made a hole in their wall that divides their house and their laundromat business to make the small glasshouse that houses their coffee bar. Amazing!

It’s actually my first time to try ginger-infused coffee. I didn’t know this would actually appeal and taste good to me. My friends joined me a little later and we stayed until the people started flocking in. We also tried their White Chocolate Walnut Cranberry Piaya for only P30.

I’d rate this cafe 4/5 because the experience and coffee were good and I’d definitely come back if I have spare time because it’s near the office. Plus, it’s cheap! If Papa Kape is not appearing on your maps, try to pin Tap Tap Laundromat since they are in the same location. Note that they are not open the whole day! Check the opening hours below:
